The APWM (NSW Committee) has six main functions.

Primarily, it exists to promote world mission within the Presbyterian Church in NSW through the world of the Australian Presbyterian World Mission.

The Committee also encourages the participation of all church members in the task of world mission and provides financial support for projects and people as determined by the policies of the Committee of Australian Presbyterian World Mission and in accordance with the rules and practice of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in NSW.

It recruits missionaries under the general lines of policy laid down by the Committee of the Australian Presbyterian World Mission and recommends potential missionaries for appointment where appropriate.

It also makes travel and furlough arrangements and keeps churches informed of its policies and guidelines, particularly concerning missionary recruitment, missionary support and the setting apart of missionaries.
