Singing in Churches

MESSAGE TO MINISTERS, HOME MISSIONARIES, SESSION CLERKS, TREASURERS, COM SECRETARIES AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS

Dear all,

Further to our email last Thursday in respect of the NSW Government’s latest announcement, we are awaiting clarification from the Government about the statement:

“With Christmas approaching, up to 30 choir singers can now perform outside but only five are allowed to gather indoors.  All congregants at religious services can participate in singing, but those over the age of 12 must wear face masks.”

It appears to us to mean that inside the Church up to five unmasked singers can lead singing, while all congregants are able to join in singing if they are masked.  (Children under 12 years will not be required to wear a mask.)

We have emailed the Government and are awaiting a response.  The Moderator and I are also attending a NSW Religious Communities Forum tomorrow morning (via zoom) during which I am confident this question will be raised and clarified.

We are receiving a number of emails asking for clarification, so please bear with us until tomorrow when we expect to have the answer (hopefully a positive one).

Thanks and kind regards,
