MESSAGE TO MINISTERS, HOME MISSIONARIES, SESSION CLERKS, TREASURERS, COM SECRETARIES AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS
Following enquiry from one of our regional ministers, I am writing to remove ambiguity in our statement that “There is no longer a strict 1.5 metre rule applying to the positioning of chairs in the church”.
It has been correctly highlighted to me that the new Safety Plan says that “Where possible, ensure congregants comply with 1.5 metres physical distance, such as by moving or removing tables and seating as required, or marking out grassed areas for outdoor religious services. Members of the same household do not need to physically distance.”
My sincere apologies for causing ambiguity. Where possible, please continue to position chairs to maintain 1.5 metres physical distancing between individuals and between household groups.
It has also been highlighted to me by another of our regional ministers that the government website healthdirect.gov.au states that the audience or congregation should not sing indoors.
We are urgently seeking clarification from NSW Health on this apparent inconsistency and will update you as soon as we can.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to continue to contact us should you have any questions or queries about the current restrictions.
